Sheikh Faisal AlAwami had participated in the intellectual dialogue meeting which was organized by King AbdulAziz Center for National Dialogue in Riyadh on June 1st and 2nd, 2010, and which was entitled:"Identity and Globalization in the Saudi Intellectual Discourse". Three topics were addressed in the meeting; the peculiarity of the Saudi community, citizenship in the Saudi intellectual discourse and globalization and the Saudi society in the Saudi intellectual discourse.

In his participation, Sheikh AlAwami indicated that preserving identity is an international concern; therefore, specialist warned from messing with national symbols. However, there are some groups who over exaggerate in protecting their identity till reaching isolation.

AlAwami declared that the Saudi society does not have a civilizational heritage, and its only heritage is represented in the religious identity. Religion is actually intrusive, and it did not come to be isolated; but to be influential on the human community.

He suggested limiting the focus on privacy and spreading the culture of openness to all other religions and affiliations in the world. He mentioned two reasons for such suggestion; the exaggeration in protecting privacy resulted in an isolated and pessimistic community, and the Saudi society is in a press need for acquiring some features from other civilizations and identities through openness in order to develop itself.

As for citizenship, Sheikh AlAwami said that it is a psychological and realistic interaction between an individual and the community, and it can be observed through applying two factors; giving the individual his/her rights as being a member in the society, and respecting the social system and the law.

He confirmed that if all citizens felt that they are equal with others in terms of opportunities and noted that they really have contributions in public life without the existence of any type of regional, sectarian or tribal discrimination, they would be voluntarily committed to the law.

Sheikh Faisal AlAwami, also, talked about globalization which he divided into two types; national and international. He stressed the necessity of not giving up to some unfavorable types of globalization whether there is an identified identity or not.

He, at the end of his participation, expressed his satisfaction towards this meeting which adopted the scientific approach, and which provided the opportunity of meeting many intellectuals from different cultural and doctrinal trends in Saudi Arabia.
